They will be assisted in obtaining raw materials as well as improving the design, quality, branding, and marketing of their products. What is Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana?

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) launched the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana. The Indian government has set aside Rs 500 crore for this scheme. The scheme combines the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) and the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) (NRLM). In Hindi, the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) is known as Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana - (DAY-NULM) and the National Urban Livelihoods Mission. The entire urban population will be covered under this scheme by covering all 4041 cities and towns under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Yojana for Urban Areas. All urban poverty alleviation programmes currently cover only 790 towns and cities.

Objective of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana

The objective is to reduce poverty and vulnerability of urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in a significant improvement in their livelihoods on a long-term basis, through the development of strong grassroots level institutions of the poor.

The mission would aim to provide shelters with essential services to the urban homeless in stages. Furthermore, the mission would address urban street vendors' livelihood concerns by facilitating access to suitable spaces, institutional credit, social security, and skills for urban street vendors to access emerging market opportunities.

Features

  • A provision of Rs 15,000 has been made under the Mission for training and skilling the urban poor, which amounts to Rs 18,000 per person in the North East and Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, City Livelihood Centres will meet a high demand from urban citizens for training the urban poor in market-oriented skills.
  • This will be accomplished through the formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) for member training, with an initial support of Rs 10,000 provided to each group. Level federations of registered areas receive Rs. 50,000.
  • Self-employment will be encouraged through the establishment of micro-enterprises and group enterprises. Individual projects will receive a Rs 2 lakh interest subsidy, while group enterprises will receive a Rs 10 lakh interest subsidy.
  • The scheme fully funds the construction of shelters for the urban homeless.
  • Development of the vendor market and promotion of vendor skills through the establishment of infrastructure and special projects for waste pickers and people with disabilities, among other things.

COMPONENT

The scheme is divided into two parts: one for urban India and one for rural India.

  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation will implement the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana component.
  • The Ministry of Rural Development will implement the rural component, known as the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana.
