On September 27, 2021, Narendra Modi-the country's Prime Minister unveiled the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) with an aim to establish the "backbone necessary to support the integrated digital health infrastructure of the country." On the launch, Modi iterated that the mission has the capability to bring about "revolutionary changes" to the healthcare infrastructure in the country.

Note as of now, the programme is being run as a pilot project in six of the UTs.

Now as health ID is one of the integral components of ABDM, here is all about how you can secure or apply for the digital health ID:

Anyone who wishes to be associated with ABDM and wants their health records to be maintained digitally needs to first create a health ID. Health ID is nothing but an unique 14-digit number that will map a person, authenticate his or her ID and also will thread their health records across stakeholders in the entire healthcare infra system.

How to generate Health Id?

One can self-register on the health ID web portal or can even download ABDM Health Records application from the Google Playstore, as per the National Health Authority website. Also, an interested person can request for the creation of his or her health ID at a ABDM-member health facility, including public/private hospitals, community health centre, health and wellness centres across India.

Further there are two options:

If you are creating health ID via mobile number then you would need to give out name, year of birth, Gender, address, mobile number.

And if the same is being executed via Aadhaar, you will be needing-Name, Year of Birth, Gender, Address, Mobile Number, Aadhaar Number. Note in a case if you do not want to generate this specific Id using Aadhaar, you can simply register your mobile number and follow it up with self-declared details.
