Do You Need To Activate UAN Again After Changing Your Job?

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique identification number issued by the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to every contributing member of the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) scheme. It serves as a centralized identifier that remains constant throughout an individual's career, irrespective of job changes. However, one common question that arises among individuals when changing jobs is whether they need to activate their UAN again.

Knowing your UAN number is crucial if you are an employee who makes EPF contributions. Your UAN number can be found on your pay stub, online at the EPFO, or by getting in touch with your company.

UAN

Each member receives a unique, permanent Universal Account Number (UAN), which they can use to access rewards for the duration of their lifetime of service.

Members should seed their respective UANs with their respective Aadhaar, PAN, and Personal Bank Account Numbers (KYCs), and activate their UANs with their mobile numbers.

What is a Universal Account Number (UAN)?

Each employee of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is given a 12-digit unique identification number known as the Universal Account Number (UAN). It functions as a core identifier that links different Member IDs that have been assigned to a certain person. With the use of the UAN, several Member Identification Numbers (Member IDs) can be combined into a single Universal Account Number. Additionally, the UAN is connected to Know Your Customer (KYC) information, allowing members to access a variety of online services without the need for employer intermediaries.

How to activate UAN when switching a job?

  • UAN has to be activated only once. Here is how to activate UAN.
