Every retiring employee receives a letter from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) containing details of the Pension Payment Order (PPO) for provident fund and pension disbursement. It is the reference number for all correspondence with the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO). The PPO number is useful in obtaining the pension. Furthermore, when submitting a life certificate each year, this PPO number must be included. A PPO number is essentially a reference number for any correspondence with CPAO.
The new 12-digit PPO number is unique to each pensioner and family pensioner and serves as a reference number for all communications with CPAO. Pensioners can only check the status of their pension and file grievances using their PPO number because the CPAO database only recognises the 12-digit number.
Because CPAO was established on January 1, 1990, it lacks a record of pensions sanctioned prior to 1990 by various government offices. To create a record of such pensioners in the CPAO computer database, information about such pensioners can be provided by the PAO of the pensioner parent office or the concerned CPPC, accompanied by attested photocopies of old pension papers, and a 12-digit number will be assigned.
What is the Pension Payment Order (PPO) number?
The first five digits of each 12-digit PPO indicate the code number of the PPO issuing authority, the next two digits indicate the year of issue, and the following four digits indicate the sequential number of the PPO, while the last digit is a check digit for computer purposes. For example, a PPO with the number 709650601302 indicates that the PPO was issued by AG Madhya Pradesh in 2006, is the 130th PPO issued by that PPO issuing authority, and is assigned computer code-2.
How to find PPO number?
Step 1: Visit www.epfindia.gov.in.
Step 2: Select the Pensioner's portal from the list of online services.
Step 3: You will be taken to the 'Welcome to Pensioners Portal.' page.
Click the 'Know your PPO number' link on the right side of the page.
Step 4: Enter your bank account number or your PF number.
After entering the necessary information, you will be given your PPO number, as well as your Member ID and pension type.
When applying for a pension or submitting one's annual life certificate, the PPO number is required. Transferring a PF account from one bank branch to another can be difficult if the PPO number is unknown.
How to Check PPO status?
Anyone can find out the status of any PPO by visiting the "know your status" link. Furthermore, after registering on the CPAO website (www.cpao.nic.in), pensioners can download a copy of PPOs and subsequent amendments issued by CPAO by using a login and password.
If you have forgotten your PPO number or want to find it, you can easily get it by using your bank account number or your Member ID at any time.
