Your FASTag balance is the amount of money that is left in your account after paying tolls. Remember that you will not be allowed to travel if you have less money in your account. For customers whose KYC documents are received, the FASTag Account recharge limit is Rs 1,00,000. For non-KYC customers, the recharge limit is Rs 10,000 only.

FASTag is an electronic toll collection system in India that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid account linked to it. FASTag is affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle and enables you to drive through toll plazas, without stopping for cash transactions. You need to recharge / top up the tag as per your requirement. Recently, the government has issued an important update on FASTag KYC update.

Recently, we have seen FASTag scams have become popular. Recently, there was a report that a 47-year-old man from Nallasopara (Mumbai) lost Rs 2.4 lakh to cybercriminals while trying to recharge his FasTag account. He wanted to recharge his FasTag for toll payments and when he searched for 'FasTag Customer Care online he was caught up with the cyber criminals.

In this article, we will tell you some basic tips you should follow while doing FasTag recharge:

1. Use a trusted UPI app:

Select a safe and secure UPI app from a bank's official app or a trusted third-party app to recharge your FASTag.

2. Ensure that your FASTag details are accurate:

It is recommended to double-check your FASTag account details like your vehicle number and FASTag ID to avoid any mistakes during the recharge process.

3. Choose FASTag recharge option:

Navigate to the FASTag recharge option within the selected UPI app, and ensure to select the appropriate category for FASTag recharges.

4. Enter the correct amount:

Pay attention while entering the recharge amount to avoid overcharges or insufficient charges.

5. Have a good internet connection:

Before initiating the recharge process, ensure you have a stable internet connection to avoid any interruptions.

6. Secure UPI PIN Entry:

Prioritize security by entering your UPI PIN discreetly, keep it safe, and avoid sharing it with others.

7. Save transaction reference:

After you have successfully recharged your FASTag balance, always save the transaction reference or take a screenshot for future reference to avoid any discrepancies.

Your FASTag May Get Deactivated/Blacklisted After Jan 31 If FASTag Update Is Not Done

One big update for car owners is that if the Know Your Customer (KYC) for FASTags affixed on your car's windscreen is incomplete or not done, it will be deactivated or blacklisted, irrespective of the balance. The deadline to ensure the same is January 31. Thus, only a few days are left for FASTag users to complete their KYC process to ensure that their latest FASTag aligns with the RBI guidelines.

According to the NHAI, Fastags with incomplete KYC will be canceled or deactivated after January 31. This means that even if you have valid FASTags with sufficient balance your FASTags may be deactivated or face blacklisting by banks due to incomplete KYC after January 31, 2024.
