How Pensioners Can Get Digital Life Certificate at Home for Free: Check Process, Eligibility and Rules

Pensioners covered under the Employees' Pension Scheme, 1995 (EPS-95) can now submit their annual Digital Life Certificate (DLC) from the comfort of their homes without paying any service fee under a special arrangement between the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).

The facility allows postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) to visit eligible pensioners and generate their Digital Life Certificate using Aadhaar-based face authentication or fingerprint biometric authentication. EPFO will bear the cost of the service, and it will be free for pensioners whose certificates are successfully submitted and approved under the prescribed procedure.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, EPFO and IPPB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 3, 2025, to facilitate doorstep DLC services for EPS-95 pensioners. The facility became effective on December 1, 2025, and EPFO issued a circular detailing the rollout on January 9, 2026.

How Can EPFO Pensioners Get a Free Digital Life Certificate at Home? Step By Step Process

Eligible EPS-95 pensioners can request a doorstep visit by a postman or Gramin Dak Sevak to complete their Digital Life Certificate submission.
The process involves the following steps:

Step 1: Pensioners can call IPPB customer care at 033-22029000 to request a doorstep Digital Life Certificate service. They can also contact their local postman or Gramin Dak Sevak or approach the nearest post office to seek assistance.

Step 2: The pensioner should keep their Aadhaar details and Pension Payment Order (PPO) information available for verification. The postal employee will check the relevant pension details and whether the life certificate is due.

Step 3: The postman or Gramin Dak Sevak will use the authorised doorstep banking device to generate the Digital Life Certificate through Aadhaar-based face authentication or fingerprint biometric authentication.

Step 4: After submission, EPFO verifies the DLC and the pensioner's details. The certificate must satisfy the conditions specified in the standard operating procedure before it qualifies as a successful submission under the free service arrangement.

Step 5: Pensioners should retain the acknowledgement or reference details generated during the process and confirm that the certificate has been successfully submitted and accepted. A visit or an attempted submission alone does not guarantee that the DLC has been approved.

Is the EPFO-IPPB Digital Life Certificate Service Completely Free?

Yes. Under the special EPFO-IPPB arrangement, eligible EPS-95 pensioners do not have to pay a service fee for a successful doorstep Digital Life Certificate submission.
