How Should Provident Fund Account Holders Check EPF Passbook, EPF Balance Online

Provident Fund (PF) account holders receive an e-passbook i.e EPF passbook from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in order to access information linked to their PF account including contributions, interest earned, withdrawals, etc.

Through the digital passbook, the PF account holders track their PF balance, contributions made by the employer, and the interest earned on their PF account. Also, the e-passbook is of great help when applying for loans or other financial services.

The EPF passbook also specifics about all the transactions that have been done in Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) accounts by the employer and the employee.

You can view your EPF passbook online and download in PDF format. Four ways to view your PF balance are:

How to Download EPF Passbook?

Downloading the PF Passbook is very easy and can be done with a few simple steps on the EPFO portal. Follow the below-listed steps to view and download the passbook online:

Remember that the PF passbook facility is only available for those members who complete the UAN registration on the EPFO portal.

Step 1: Visit the EPFO Official Website
Step 2: Click on 'Member Passbook' in the services section
Step 3: Enter your UAN number, password, and the sum of the mathematical problem and click on the 'Login' button.
Step 4: Access the Passbook
Select the 'Member ID' and click on the 'View Password [Old: Full]' option.
Step 5: Your PF details will be displayed on the screen.
Step 6: You can print this passbook by clicking on the 'Download Passbook' option.

How to view the EPF Passbook?

Step 1: Visit https://www.epfindia.gov.in/site_en/index.php.
Step 2: Click on the 'e-Passbook' option.
Step 3: On the new tab, the employee must have their UAN, password, and captcha details.
Step 4: Click on 'Login'.
Step 5: On the next page, the Member ID of the employee will be displayed. In case the employee has various Member IDs, all of them will be displayed on the screen.
Step 6: Click on the Member ID of which the PF statement you want to see
Step 7: The name of the company, the employee's name, the address of the office, the percentage ownership held by the employer and the employee, and the contribution made to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) account will all be displayed once you click on the Member ID.
Step 8: The employee will also be able to download the PF statement in PDF format and take a printout of the statement.

How to check EPF balance Via SMS

If English is your preferred language, you can use the phrase 'EPFOHO UAN ENG' to send an SMS to the number 7738299899 to check the balance of your EPFO account. If Hindi is your preferred language, enter HIN. Your account balance is available to you in 10 regional languages.

Using your mobile phone number, you can also check the balance of your EPF passbook. Simply contact 9966044425 from your registered mobile number to find out your EPF account balance via missed call.

How to view your EPFO account balance on the UMANG App?

Step 1: Download the UMANG app on your phone from Google Play Store
Step 2: On the app select the option 'EPFO'.
Step 3: Click on the option 'Employee Centric Service'.
Step 4: Enter your UAN number.
Step 5: You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number.
Step 6: To proceed further, enter the OTP received.
Step 7: Click on 'view passbook' under the EPFO option.
