Applying for an Aadhaar card for the first time is a very simple & free process which is available across India through authorised Aadhaar enrolment centres and Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

Issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhaar serves as a crucial identity and address proof for banking, government schemes, mobile connections, and many other services. Here's a complete step-by-step guide to Aadhaar enrolment, including required documents, biometric capture, and how to check Aadhaar status online.
How to Apply for an Aadhaar Card: Step-by-Step Process
To begin the new Aadhaar card application, applicants must Follow the Steps below:
Step 1: Download the Aadhaar enrolment form from the official UIDAI website or they can get it at the enrolment centre.
The form requires demographic details such as full name, gender, date of birth or age, complete residential address, and relationship details, which are mandatory fields in the case of children below five years.
Step 2: Locate the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre near you using the UIDAI locator tool on uidai.gov.in or through the mAadhaar mobile app.
Step 3: Applicants must then visit the selected centre with valid Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents.
Step 4: Get your documents verified at the centre where your biometric details, including photograph, fingerprints, and iris sca,n will be done
Step 5: Then submit the enrolment request.
Step 6: After successful submission, applicants will receive an acknowledgement slip containing a 28-digit Enrolment ID (EID).
This ID is essential for checking Aadhaar status online and downloading e-Aadhaar once the application is approved. Aadhaar generation may take up to 180 days after enrolment.
How to Find the Nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre
The most reliable way to locate an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre is through official UIDAI platforms. On the UIDAI website, users can go to My Aadhaar , ethen go 'Locate an Enrolment Centre' tab, then search by state, district, PIN code, or city/locality. The portal displays centre addresses, contact details, and map directions.
Alternatively, the mAadhaar app available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store allows users to search nearby centres using text search or advanced filters such as state or PIN code, along with centre timings and navigation support.
Documents Required for New Aadhaar Card
UIDAI accepts document-based verification or Head of Family (HoF)-based verification for Aadhaar enrolment. Common Proof of Identity documents include Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, Driving Licence, or Ration card. Accepted Proof of Address documents include Passport, bank statement or passbook, Voter ID, and recent utility bills such as electricity or gas bills issued within the last three months.
For date of birth proof, applicants may submit a Birth Certificate, SSLC certificate, or Passport. In HoF-based enrolment, Proof of Relationship (PoR) documents such as a Birth Certificate or PDS card are required.
Aadhaar Status Check and e-Aadhaar Download
Once enrolment is complete, applicants can check Aadhaar card status online using the EID on the UIDAI portal. After approval, users can download their e-Aadhaar PDF, which is digitally valid and accepted as an official identity document across India.
