The official website of UIDAI, https://uidai.gov.in/ contains the window where you can change or update your address on your Aadhaar card. On the site, go to the 'My Aadhaar' bar to start the process. Under the bar go to the Update Your Aadhaar section, and then click on the 'Update Demographics Data and Check Status'.

From there, you will be redirected to another page where you will be required to log in using your Aadhaar number and a One Time Password (OTP). After that, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, so you need to keep the active mobile number with yourself. After putting the OTP and the mentioned Captcha code on the screen, you will be logged into the Aadhaar portal where you can change or update your address. Then, go to the 'Update Aadhaar Online' window, and you will be redirected to another page.

On that page, you can select the Aadhaar card update and change in permanent address. Put your new address Choose an address from, upload the scanned copies of authentic supporting documents like new address proof, and then click on the 'Proceed to Update Aadhaar'. Then you need to make an online payment of Rs. 50 (non-refundable) via debit/credit card or net banking.

After you successfully make the payment, an Update Request Number (URN) will be generated. It will have to use that number to check the status of your Aadhaar update request. The procedure can take up to 90 days to be completed. After confirmation from checking the status, you need to download and print out the new and updated Aadhaar card version. The older Aadhaar card will be obsolete.

Official POI (Proof of Identity) Documents

Passport, PAN Card, Ration Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Arms License, Service photo identity card issued by government/ PSU/ Banks, Pensioner Photo Card, Kissan Photo Passbook, Disability ID Card issued government, MGNREGA/ NREGS Job card etc. issued by the government, Marriage certificate with photograph issued by the government, ST/ SC/ OBC certificate with photograph ST/ SC/ OBC certificate with photograph, etc. can be considered as official POI (Proof of Identity) Documents Containing Name and Photo for Aadhaar registration or update.

Aadhaar Update Status Check

According to UIDAI, On successful submission of an online address update request, you receive a URN (Update Request Number) of the format 0000/00XXX/XXXXX. This is shown on screen and also sent via SMS to your registered mobile number. Use this URN and your Aadhaar number to track the status of your Aadhaar update from:

The Aadhaar card contains a 12-digit unique identification number, which is a very important document as a citizen, and you can use it as your authentic address proof for banks or other official purposes. So, you must have an updated Aadhaar card.
