EPF or the Employee Provident fund account is meant to build retirement corpus. Every month 12% of the employee's basic pay is deducted and transferred to the EPF account. Similar amount is also contributed by the employer on his behalf to the employee's EPF account. Nevertheless, there are times when the amount deducted from the salary against the EPF contribution is not deposited into the EPF account. This is the reason why the retirement fund body-the Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) gives subscribers access to check their contribution together with that of the employer in their account online.
Process to ascertain or check whether the employer has deposited the EPF contribution
If you are a EPF member, you can download and check the EPF passbook either through the EPFO portal or via the UMANG app.
For accessing the EPF passbook, subscribers need to first register on the Member e-Sewa interface. Here for the registration various details required include UAN or Universal Account Number, PAN as well as Aadhaar number.
The EPF passbook can then be accessed by visiting the website https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login.
For checking the EPF passbook through the Umang app
For accessing the EPF passbook through the UMANG app, registration can be completed using the mobile number. After the registration is done successfully, you can check the passbook by logging into your EPF account using the UAN and OTP.
What to do in case the employees account is with a trust?
In such a situation, the employee should ask his employer about the EPF passbook and verify monthly contribution.
