By selecting 'transferred to another account,' you can also transfer your shares to another Demat account. Only your own CDSL Demat account can be used to move locked-in shares, government securities, and mutual funds. Only if you submit a signed hardcopy of the account closure form can you choose the closure-cum-transfer option. You'll need to send the target Demat account's CMR (Client Master Report).

The target account's name(s) must be in the same order as your Zerodha Demat account's name(s). For NSDL accounts, the CMR must be in the form of a hardcopy with a seal and signature. For CDSL accounts, it can be digitally signed CMR by the DP. The client's account will be closed if the client makes a specific request. The closure will take effect after one month has passed from the date of application/intimation or the date of account settlement, whichever comes first.

It's a good idea to close any Demat accounts that are inactive or have no balance. If active balances exist, they can be consolidated into a single account, and the redundant Demat accounts can be closed.
