A 4-digit PIN and chip system in the Credit & Debit cards are used to safeguard every transaction through the them and secure the Customer data. This PIN System method ensures the security and safety of all transactions conducted with your card. It is by definition a 4-digit special identifying number that is assigned to a user's card. The cardholder must enter the PIN while using the card for any transaction online or offline at the ATM.
Card PIN is a precaution that the banks take to protect a customer's card. Therefore, the PIN must never be disclosed to anyone. However, before making any transaction online or offline one should activate or generate Credit Card PIN.
Credit Card PIN generation
Card PIN activation is another crucial step before using your credit card for the first time. Most banks and card issuers will send a new credit card that is currently operational. But you can't start using your credit card until you create the PIN. Every bank has their own Card activation process.
There used to be a separate card activation step back when banks still generated credit card PINs. Cards are now being sent in an active state thanks to the introduction of green PINs and self-PIN generation.
If you are an HDFC Bank Credit Card Customer, once you receive the new credit card, try any one of the below-mentioned methods to generate the PIN. Once you use your credit card for the first time, your card gets activated automatically.
IVR
To start the PIN generation process via IVR you first need to call IVR Toll number 1860 266 0333 from your registered mobile number:
Step 1: Now, enter the Last 4 digits of your credit card followed by hash (#)
Step 2: Dial 1 to generate a Credit card PIN
Step 3: Again Dial 1 when prompted to "Generate a One Time Password" (OTP) to your mobile as an SMS.
Step 4: Enter the 6-digit OTP
Step 5: On successful entry of OTP, the IVR will confirm successful validation and ask you to set the 4-digit PIN followed by the hash (#) key.
Please note - If you get disconnected at step # 4:- Re-dial the IVR Toll number, after Step 2 "Dial 2 to enter the 6 Digit OTP"
Netbanking
To get your PIN re-issued if you have NetBanking set up, follow these procedures.
Step 1: Log in to HDFC Netbanking with your User ID & IPIN
Step 2: After logging into Netbanking, Click on Click on "Cards" tab on top.
Step 3: On the left hand under the Request option, select "Instant PIN Generation"
Step 4: Select a credit card number from the drop-down and enter 4 Digit PIN of your choice
Step 5: Enter the PIN again and click "Continue"
