A customer information file (CIF) is a unique 11-digit number that a bank issues to each customer that contains confidential information like KYC (Know Your Customer) details, bank details and other personal details such as name, birth date, age, etc. CIFs are used in financial institutions to represent a customer's existing products, accounts and related details. Customer Information File (CIF) numbers can normally be found on a bank's passbook or chequebook. You may also check it using your net banking or mobile banking account. But if you are a customer of HDFC Bank and want to find your CIF number, you can get it quickly by using one of the methods listed below.
Steps to get your CIF Number of HDFC Bank through net banking
Every customer who has a savings/ current account with HDFC Bank is issued a Customer ID, which is a unique identifying number. In the event of non-individuals (companies, trusts, HUFs, etc.), the individual's customer ID is required to log in to the net banking account.
- Visit https://netbanking.hdfcbank.com/netbanking/ and click on the 'Forgot Customer ID' link.
- Now enter your registered mobile number with the country code, date of birth/PAN details and the security code.
- Now click on 'Continue' to proceed and on the next page authenticate your request by entering the OTP (one-time password) received on your registered mobile number.
- Click on 'Continue' to proceed further and your customer ID will be displayed on the screen.
- You can now log in to your net banking account using the customer ID.
Note: NRI or NRE customers can use their date of birth to get Customer ID details. If you are an authorised signatory of a firm, company, trust, or other non-individual entity, you can get the customer ID using the PAN details of your entity. And if you are a HUF Karta, you can get the customer ID using the PAN details of your Hindu Undivided Family (HUF). The CIF number will not be displayed online if there are multiple Customer IDs with the same details according to HDFC Bank.
Steps to get your CIF Number of HDFC Bank through mobile banking
Customers having a mobile banking account of HDFC, can follow the steps below to get customer ID details online.
- Open the HDFC Bank mobile app and log in to your account using the required credentials.
- Now tap on the menu icon, located at the top-left side of the homepage.
- Tap on 'Your Profile' section and from the drop-down list, select 'Personal Profile'.
- On the 'Personal Profile' section, you will get your Customer ID displayed on the screen.
How to get your CIF Number of HDFC Bank offline?
Customers with an HDFC Bank Savings/ Current Account can get the CIF number by checking their account statement, passbook, or cheque book. Customers can get their customer ID at the top of their account statement slip. Customers can find their customer ID details on the first page of their passbook. Customers should refer to the 'Welcome Letter' for Customer ID for new regular accounts opened at HDFC Bank. Customers can find their CIF number on the first page of their cheque book also.
