How To Lock And Unlock Aadhaar Services Online?

Aadhaar is one of the most commonly used documents as evidence of identity and proof of address. In this context, there is always concern about security breaches and personal data leaks. The UIDAI provides the ability to lock and unlock Aadhaar services online. What is Aadhaar (UID) Lock & Unlock?

UIDAI provides a mechanism for locking and unlocking Aadhaar numbers (UID) to increase the security of users' Aadhaar number and provide control to the resident. Aadhaar can be easily locked through the UIDAI website (www.myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) or the mAadhaar app. Residents cannot do any type of authentication utilising UID, UID Token, and VID for Biometrics, Demographics, and OTP modalities by doing so. To unlock UID, recent VID, the UIDAI website, or the mAadhaar app can be used. After unlocking Aadhaar (UID), residents can use UID, UID Token, and VID to complete authentication.

How to Lock Aadhaar Services?

Through SMS Service-

• GVID space ast four or eight digits of the UID, send it to 1947
• Example- GVID 1234 SMS to 1947

Through Website-

• Visit the UIDAI website (https://resident.uidai.gov.in/aadhaar-lockunlock)
• Click on Lock Aadhaar under My Aadhaar.
• Select the UID Lock option
• Enter the UID Number, name etc
• Enter the Security Code
• Click Send OTP
• Enter OTP and then click Submit.
• Your UID has been successfully locked.

How to Unlock Aadhaar Services?

Through SMS-

• RVID space Last 4 or 8 digits of UID and send SMS to 1947.
• Example- RVID 1234.

Through website

• Visit the UIDAI website (https://resident.uidai.gov.in/aadhaar-lockunlock),
• Select Unlock
• Enter the latest VID and security code
• Click on Send OTP
• Enter the OTP and submit
• Your UID will be successfully unlocked.

Residents can also use the mAadhaar app to lock or unlock their Aadhaar cards.

How to get VID after locking the UID?

If a resident forgets their VID after locking it, they can retrieve it through sms service
Enter RVID space Last 4 or 8 digits of UID and send an SMS to 1947 using your Aadhaar Register mobile number.
