How To Register For DigiLocker?

DigiLocker is one of the key initiatives launched by the Indian government as part of the "Digital India" project, introduced in 2015 by the Government of India. Digilocker helps in keeping official documents and certifications in virtual form/digital form, much like a physical locker that houses a variety of important information. It can store documents like Aadhaar, PAN, and various other important documents and certificates given by government organisations. The documents in the Digilocker are stored on the cloud via the "Digital Locker" service.

Here we have given a step-by-step direction to register for Digilocker:

Before moving forward, you should note, you can use the Aadhaar number to create a digital locker account by visiting the Digilocker website. Make sure that your current phone number is registered with your Aadhaar number.

Step 1: Download the DigiLocker App on your device from Google Play Store

Step 2: Open the App, Click on the "Create Account" button given on the homepage of the App.

Step 3: Enter your full name, and other details such as date of birth, and mobile number (registered with Aadhaar).

Step 4: Set a 6-digit security PIN, enter an email ID and enter your Aadhaar Number.

Step 5: Once the process is done, Click the submit button.

Step 6: The registered mobile number and email will receive an OTP. To get information based on your Aadhaar, you will have to authenticate the OTP.

Why Digilocker?

DigiLocker has been introduced to support the paperless government in India driven by the digital India initiative. Citizens can upload, electronically sign, and share their documents whenever they choose as per their needs. Every document on this platform has the same legal standing as real documents. For instance, residents can use DigiLocker to exhibit their driver's licence, e-Aadhaar, certificates, and other documents whenever and wherever it is necessary.
