Your account credentials must be updated in order for your Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) account to be completely KYC compliant. If you have a valid mobile number linked with your EPF account, you can generate a one-time password (OTP) to process any claim or account-related application. Having a valid email address linked to your EPF account allows you to submit queries regarding your account. Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made it simple for members to update their KYC details online using the Member Sewa Portal.
According to EPFO "Know your Customer or KYC is a one-time process which helps in identity verification of subscribers through linking of UAN with KYC details. The Employees / Employers need to provide KYC details viz. Aadhaar, PAN, Bank, etc. for unique identification of the employees enabling seamless online services." As a consequence, members who want to update their mobile number, email address, or date of birth in their EPF account may do so online in a matter of seconds using the steps outlined below.
Steps to update mobile number with EPF account online
UAN will be activated and a one-time password will be provided to the member's mobile number if they have a correct mobile number linked to their EPF account. A single mobile number can be used to register with a single UAN, and having an updated mobile number can be utilised to track if your updated KYC has been accepted by the employer. If you forget your login password, you may reset it using the mobile number registered with your EPF account. As a result, updating your mobile number with your EPF account is essential, and if you haven't done so before, follow these instructions to do it online.
- Visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in (Member Sewa Portal) and log in with your UAN and Password.
- Head to the 'Manage' section and click on 'Contact Details'.
- The first and last two digits of your current mobile number linked to your EPF account will be displayed on the screen. Choose "Change Mobile Number" and type in the new number twice.
- Now click on "Get Authorization Pin" and you will get a one-time password on the entered mobile number.
- Click the "Submit" button after entering the OTP in the space given and your new mobile number will be successfully updated in the EPFO portal.
Steps to update email ID with EPF account online
A member's UAN can be activated not just with a mobile number, but also with an email address. To activate a UAN, you'll need to provide details such as your name, date of birth, mobile number, and email address. Not only an updated or registered email ID is essential for UAN activation, but it is also required to submit any complaints regarding your account or employer. If you are given two UANs, you should promptly inform your employer and EPFO (uanepf@epfindia.gov.in) by email, specifying both your current and previous UANs. As a result, having an email address linked with your EPF account is necessary, and if you need to change your email address, follow the instructions below.
- Visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in (Member Sewa Portal) and log in with your UAN and Password.
- Go to the 'Manage Section' and click on 'Contact Details' from the drop-down menu.
- Your registered email ID will now be displayed on the screen under which you need to tick on the box asking 'Change E-Mail Id'.
- Now enter your New E-mail Id and re-enter the same in the space provided.
- Click on "Get Authorization Pin" and you will get a one-time password on the entered email ID.
- After entering the OTP in the field provided, click the "Submit" button, and your new EMAIL ID will be successfully updated.
Steps to update date of birth in EPF account
PF members should update their date of birth in EPF records, ensuring that their UAN is KYC compliant and that their dates of birth are correctly recorded in the EPFO database. Making an EPF withdrawal claim or receiving a pension might be difficult if your date of birth is incorrect. If the difference in DOB is less than three years, EPF members can update by providing Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar on the Unified Member Portal, according to EPFO. To update your DOB with the EPF account online, follow these instructions.
- Visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in (Member Sewa Portal) and log in with your UAN and Password.
- Under the 'Manage Section' click on 'Basic Details'.
- Now on the 'Modify Basic Details' page enter your correct date of birth in DD/MM/YYYY format.
- Under the 'Changes Requested' section, you are required to enter your valid date of birth.
- Now accept the consent and click on 'Update'.
- 'Pending by Employer' option will appear on the next page, along with additional details such as the reference number, current status, etc.
- Now ask your employer or send an email to approve the application request.
Note
Considering the importance of having a correct mobile number linked with your EPF account, EPFO has mentioned on its website that "Dear member, For the sake of security of your account: Please check your mobile number in your profile. If it is not yours, please update the same with your own mobile number, preferably using your aadhar linked mobile number. This available mobile is used for forgot password, PF balance inquiry and messages on contribution payment by employer. If mobile number is of a different person, then the details of your PF balance and monthly contribution is exposed to him/her. Only the aadhar linked mobile enables you to file e-nomination and claims. Updating of any KYC will also happen based on OTP on aadhar linked mobile only. If you have more than one UAN, immediately apply for transfer of the old one to the present UAN."
