Now you can get e-PAN in 10 minutes in 10 minutes time if you have Aadhaar and this in PDF format is as good as paper PAN card. And the facility has been available through the e-filing portal.
But importantly the facility cannot be tapped by all of the aadhaar card holders for getting PAN via e-filing portal.
1. Valid Aadhaar ID is a must:
As on the e-filing portal, all of the data is auto-extracted from the UIDAI and is verified for e-KYC purpose. And further in the process of the PAN application on the e-filing portal, no documents need to be furnished.
2. Aadhaar number should be linked to one's mobile number:
This is also a pre-requisite as the department of income tax sends the OTP or one time password on the mobile number linked to the 12-digits UIDAI issued aadhaar ID.
3. Date of Birth on Aadhaar needs to be cross checked :
This is required as in old Aadhaar ID there was mention of just the year, but the requisite here is that it should be in DD/MM/YY format. And so in the former case, you need to get the updation made through the online route or by visiting any of the Aadhaar Kendra Centre.
4. Facility available for citizens aged 18 years and above on application date:
Also only individuals can get the e-PAN through the route and others including companies, HUFs, partnership firms are not eligible.
Also, while making an e-PAN application ensure that you already do not have it as any duplicacy or if found to carry 2 PANs you would be penalized under section 272B(1) of the Income Tax Act and charged a sum of Rs. 10000.
