Lakhpati Didi Yojana: Don't Miss Benefits, Eligibility, & Documents Required

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2023 announced the Lakhpati Didi scheme during his Independence Day speech to provide skill development training to 20 million women in villages all over the country. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 in her interim budget asserted that the government has increased target of 'Lakhpati Didis' the self-help group workers who earn sustainable income of at least Rs 1 lakh per year.

Nirmala Sitharaman said, Some 83 lakh self-help groups are transforming the rural landscape. They are an inspiration to others. Buoyed by their success, it has been decided to enhance the target for the Lakhpati Didi scheme from 2 crore to 3 crore."

What Is 'Lakhpati Didi' Scheme? Government launched the "Lakhpati Didi" scheme with the aim to offer skill training to 2 crore women all over the nation. Previously, Lakhpati Didi came into effect only in some states and now it will be expanded all across the country, according to reports. This scheme will ensure that women across the country can tap into various sectors and discover entrepreneurial prospects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that 10 crore women are now linked with Women's Self-Help Groups saying, "In villages today, one can find a Didi in the Bank, in the Anganwaadi, and a Didi to provide medicines."

PM Modi asserted 15,000 Women's Self-Help Groups would be given loans and training for operating and repairing drones. "Drone ki Udaan" will be carried out by these Women's Self-Help Groups, added PM Modi.

Last year in December 2023, President Droupadi Murmu stated that would be glad to address this conference as the self-help groups are contributing significantly to making deprived and backward sections of the society, especially women, self-reliant.

Under the Lakhpati Didi scheme, women are expected to be trained with skills such as plumbing, LED bulb making, operating and repairing drones. Prime Minister Narendra had said, "Today there should be women self-help groups, with the aim of my 2 crore Lakhpati Didi, today we are working on women self-help groups. We, while promoting the potential of our women power, women-led development and when I have taken forward the topics of women-led development in G-20, the whole G-20 group is accepting its importance and accepting its importance."

Key Benefits: Apart from offering financial assistance, the scheme seeks to provide training for all women. Its ensure detailed training opportunities for women thus boosting their skills and empowering them economically. Women get connected with SHGs which ultimately help them get trainings to make LED bulbs, repairing drones, plumbing, etc.

The scheme helps new women into self-help groups thus motivating them to begin and handle their businesses. Women SHGs will get drones for several agricultural related activities that will give boost the agriculture sector apart from empowering women. It has the potential of revolutionizing the agricultural sector and offers crop monitoring, pest control along with precision farming.

Eligibility: There is no age bar in order to qualify for Lakhpati Didi Yojana. All Indian origin women can seek benefit of the scheme. Women are required to get connected with the SHGs of their respective states.

How To Apply: In order to apply for this scheme and get its benefits, women need to prepare a "Self Help Group" business plan.

After the business plan is ready, the self-help group will send the plan and application to the government.

Government will review the application. If the application is accepted, then you can avail the benefits of this scheme.

Under this scheme, interest free loan of Rs 5 lakh is also offered in several states.

Documents Required: To apply for the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, applicants need to provide key documents like domicile certificate, Aadhar Card, ration card, income certificate, and bank account information, PAN card, registered mobile number, passport size photo, and email address.
