Latest FASTag Update: NHAI Mandates Double Fee If FASTag Not Affixed On Front Windshield

In a latest move, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has now made it mandatory a double fee for users who failed to affix FASTag on the front windshield from inside, as per reports. The new move will stop drivers carrying the FASTag in their hands or wallets and knowingly evading paying toll often witnessed at some highway roads. Such non-payers can be duly blacklisted, as per the latest statement issued by NHAI.

According to NHAI latest statement, "deliberate non-affixation of FASTag on the windscreen leads to unnecessary delays at the toll plazas causing inconvenience to the fellow National Highway users."

The latest information will be prominently and effectively displayed at all toll plazas as it will help in informing highway users about the penalties for non-compliance of entering a toll lane without a fixed FASTag on front windshield, added NHAI.

Additionally, CCTV footage with Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) at the toll plaza will be recorded of the non-affixed FASTag cases. It will assist in maintaining an effective record regarding the fee charged and presence of the vehicle in the toll lane, it added.

It is worth mentioning here that NHAI gathers user fee on National Highways according to the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. Currently, user fee is collected for nearly 45,000 km of National Highways and Expressways at approximately 1,000 Toll Plazas on National Highways all over the country.
