PAN-Aadhaar linking

It is worth noting that Aadhaar-PAN linking was previously free until March 31, 2022. However, starting from April 1 last year, a fee of ₹500 was implemented, and subsequently raised to ₹1,000 from July 1, 2022.

What if you miss the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline?

As per the Income Tax rules, individuals who have not linked their PAN cards with their Aadhaar cards by the required deadline will have their PAN cards declared inoperative starting from July 1, 2023. When a PAN card is inoperative:

  • Such PANs will not be eligible for any sort of refunds.
  • While the PAN remains inactive, no interest will be paid on such a refund.
  • A higher rate would be used to deduct and collect TDS and TCS.
