Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin 2025 – Know About Application Process, Eligibility

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) is a flagship program by the Indian government aimed at providing affordable housing for the rural poor. The social welfare programme, under the Ministry of Rural Development of Government of India, ensures housing provisions for the economically weaker rural communities by offering financial assistance.

Originally launched as Indira Awas Yojana, the scheme was renamed PM Awas Yojana Gramin on April 1, 2016, with the mission to provide a decent house with basic amenities to rural poor families by the end of 2022. The scheme has since been extended to continue supporting the eligible beneficiaries.

Key Features Of PM Awas Yojana Gramin

Housing Size - Each recipient is guaranteed a minimum housing size of 25 square meters (earlier 20 square meters) with a hygienic cooking space and toilet facilities.

Financial Assistance - Beneficiaries living in plains are eligible to receive Rs 1.2 lakh, whereas those residing in hilly or naxal-affected areas are entitled to receive Rs 1.3 lakh. This additional financial support is expected to address geographical challenges.

MGNREGA Integration - For construction work, the recipients under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) will receive wages for 90-95 days, offering beneficiaries additional financial assistance.

Cost Sharing - The cost of unit assistance is shared between Central and State Governments in the ratio 60:40 in plain areas and 90:10 for North Eastern and hilly states with the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir following the same provisions. Meanwhile, all other Union Territories receive 100 percent funding from the Central Government.

Basic Amenities - For the newly constructed houses under the scheme, the government is focusing more on ensuring basic amenities such as electricity, proper sanitation, and clean drinking water.

Additional Financial Assistance - The government provides additional financial assistance of Rs. 12,000 per beneficiary for constructing permanent toilets, which will be covered under the Swachh Bharat Mission- Gramin, ensuring sanitation facilities for all.

Who Are Eligible For This Scheme?

Must be a permanent resident of India

The beneficiary's name must be included in the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 database.

Priority is given to Below Poverty Line houses, widows, disabled persons, and members of Scheduled Tribes and Castes

How To Apply For PM Awas Yojana Gramin Online?

The government has launched AwaasPlus 2024 mobile application to simplify the application procedure.

Step 1 - Log in to the official website of PMAY-G

Step 2 - Open the mobile application and enter Aadhar card number. Then, use facial recognition for authentication purposes.

Step 3 - Fill in the required personal details in the application form, such as full name, gender, mobile number, income details etc.

Step 4 - Submit required documents

1)Aadhar Card as well as a self-attested copy of Aadhar Card

2) Job beneficiary card duly registered under MGNREGA

3) Bank account details with original and duplicate copies

4) Other relevant supporting documents

Step 5 - After the submission, the applicants can keep a track of their application through the app or the official website.
