In February 2024, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) made an announcement regarding the interest rate for provident fund deposits for the financial year 2023-24. The EPFO has increased the interest rate to 8.25%, a rise from the previous year's rate of 8.15%.
Many EPF members have been anticipating the crediting of the EPF interest for the financial year 2023-24. In response to queries from members on various social media platforms, including X, the EPFO stated that the process is underway and the interest will be credited soon. They assured members that the interest would be accumulated and paid in full without any loss.

As of March 2024, the interest for the financial year 2022-23 has been credited to 28.17 crore member accounts of the EPFO. Members are encouraged to check their EPF passbooks for confirmation.
EPF, also known as PF (Provident Fund), is a mandatory savings and retirement plan for active employees. It serves as a financial safety net for employees, providing them with access to the fund's corpus upon retirement. EPF members can file withdrawal or transfer claims both online and offline, and they can track the status of their EPF claims through various online platforms.
Under the EPF contribution rules, employees are required to contribute 12% of their monthly income to their EPF accounts, with the employer matching the contribution. While the entire employee contribution is credited to the EPF account, only 3.67% of the employer's portion is deposited, with the remaining 8.33% allocated to the Employees Pension Scheme (EPS).
For the fiscal year 2023-2024, the EPF interest rate has been set at 8.25%, an increase from the previous rate of 8.15%. The EPFO Board recommended distributing a historic income amount of Rs 1,07,000 crores to EPF members' accounts, reflecting the highest total income recommended for distribution on record.
EPF members can check their account balance through various methods, including using the UMANG app, visiting the EPF member e-sewa portal, giving a missed call, or sending an SMS. By following simple steps on the UMANG app or the EPFO portal, members can easily access their EPF passbook and check their account balance.
With the EPFO's announcement of an increased interest rate for the financial year 2023-24, EPF members can expect higher returns on their provident fund deposits. As the process of crediting the interest is underway, members are encouraged to stay updated through official channels and promptly check their EPF passbooks once the interest is credited.
