SBI Urged Customers To Do This For Preventing Banking Transactions Being Blocked

State Bank of India (SBI), India's largest public-sector lender, has urged its customers to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar by the deadline of March 31, 2022. Every individual who has been assigned a PAN is obligated to link it with his or her Aadhaar number, according to Section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961. If the PAN is not linked to Aadhaar by March 31, 2022, it will be considered inactive and also the individual will be liable to a penalty of Rs 1000. Not only that but if an individual does not link his or her PAN to Aadhaar, he or she would be unable to perform financial transactions where stating of PAN is required.

As a result, SBI wants customers to link their PAN to their Aadhaar numbers in order to conduct seamless banking services. SBI stated in a Tweet on the 18th of February 2022 that "We advise our customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience and continue enjoying a seamless banking service." The tweet also said "Linking of PAN with Aadhaar is mandatory. If not linked, PAN will be rendered inoperative/inactive and cannot be quoted for conducting specified transactions." As a result, PAN and Aadhaar holders should link both credentials on or before the deadline, and the steps to do so are outlined below.

  • Visit https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal and click on 'Link Aadhaar' under the 'Quick Links' section.
  • On the 'Link Aadhaar' page enter your valid PAN, Aadhaar number and Name as per Aadhaar.
  • If your Aadhaar card only has your year of birth, choose 'I have only year of birth on Aadhaar card'. Selecting 'I agree to validate my Aadhaar details' is mandatory.
  • Click on 'Link Aadhaar' and you will get a successful message on the screen.
  • Because your PAN Name, Date of Birth, and Gender will be authenticated against your Aadhaar Details, you must make sure that the entered 'Aadhaar Number' and 'Name' are as similar as per Aadhaar.
