UIDAI Extends Deadline for Free Aadhaar Update; Residents Given Until June 14, 2024

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has once again prolonged the deadline for Aadhaar Card holders to update their information online for free. With the new deadline set for June 14, 2024, residents now have additional time to ensure the accuracy of their Aadhaar data. This extension comes after the previous deadline of March 14 was deemed insufficient for everyone to complete their updates.

Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identity number issued to Indian residents, serves a pivotal role in various government services and financial transactions. By linking Aadhaar with biometrics, the system effectively prevents duplicate numbers and helps identify fraudulent activities. Therefore, updating Aadhaar documents is crucial to ensuring that the details remain accurate and safeguarded against misuse.

According to UIDAI, maintaining accurate information on Aadhaar offers several benefits, including minimizing errors during authentication processes, enhancing service delivery, and bolstering security features to detect fake identities. To this end, UIDAI advises individuals who received their Aadhaar card more than 10 years ago to update their Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents promptly.

Updating Aadhaar details online for free until June 14, 2024, is a straightforward process that residents can follow through the myAadhaar portal.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Visit the myAadhaar portal: Access the official UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in/en/ and log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP received on your registered mobile number.

2. Review existing details: Once logged in, review the existing identity and address details displayed on your profile.

3. Upload documents for correction: If any information requires correction, select the specific document (POI/POA) and upload a scanned copy in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format, with a file size less than 2 MB.

4. Submit consent for update: After uploading the necessary documents, submit your consent for the update to finalize the process.

Residents can update various demographic information for free, including name, address, date of birth/age, gender, mobile number, email address, relationship status, and information sharing consent. However, it's important to note that biometric features such as facial photograph, iris, or fingerprints cannot be updated online and require verification at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

For offline updates with biometric verification, residents can follow these steps:

1. Visit the Aadhaar locator website: Access the Aadhaar locator website at bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in/aadhaar/ to find nearby Aadhaar enrolment centres.

2. Locate nearby centres: Use the "Centres Nearby" tab or enter your PIN code to find Aadhaar enrolment centres in your vicinity.

3. Visit chosen centre with documents: Visit the selected Aadhaar enrolment centre with the required documents and follow their instructions for updating your Aadhaar details, including biometric verification.

It's vital to remember that upgrading documentation for Aadhaar cards at enrolling centres incurs a cost of Rs. 50.

The extension of the deadline for free Aadhaar updates until June 14, 2024, reflects the government's commitment to ensuring the accuracy and security of Aadhaar information. By providing residents with ample time and accessible online and offline options, UIDAI aims to streamline the updating process and enhance the integrity of the Aadhaar ecosystem.
