In India, the government has launched a new service called DigiYatra. Services from DigiYatra are currently available in the national capital, Bangalore, and Varanasi. This service aims to make airport entry and departure procedures as simple as possible for passengers. It will allow passengers to transfer between airport terminals without using a ticket or boarding pass. Both Android and iOS users can access the new digital service. DigiYatra is based on airport-available facial recognition technology. This technology allows for contactless, seamless passenger processing at airports. Here is all you need to know about Digi Yatra.
What is Digi Yatra?
Digi Yatra is an initiative led by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, to make air traveller/passenger journeys seamless, hassle-free, and health-risk-free.
The Digi Yatra process employs a single token of face biometrics to digitally validate Identity, Travel, Health, or any other data required for air travel.
What is the Digi Yatra app?
The Digi Yatra app will provide passengers with paperless and contactless entry at airport checkpoints. The app will use facial features to verify the person's identity, which will be linked to the boarding pass. The app will be available on the iOS platform in the coming weeks, and passengers will be able to complete their overall biometric registration on the app. According to a 2018 release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, in addition to Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) plans to launch the DigiYatra in Kolkata, Varanasi, Pune, and Vijayawada.
Benefits
- Passengers are not required to show their boarding pass or ID at multiple checkpoints.
- Human intervention is limited. Less time spent queuing.
- The system will map the passenger with the PNR, increasing security. At each checkpoint, only genuine passengers will be permitted entry.
- The airport operator will have real-time information on passenger load, allowing for better resource planning.
- Knowing where passengers are in the airport will help airlines.
- Airport capacity will be increased.
Digiyatra enrolment process
- Passengers can generate a Digi Yatra ID by providing the following information in a central system: Name,Phone Number,Email Address, Personal Details (Voter Id, Driving License, Aadhar etc)
- Upon submission, a Digi Yatra Id will be generated. Passengers can use this number to book their tickets. Passenger data, including Digi Yatra IDs, will be sent to the departure airport by the airlines.
- Passengers must go to the airport's registration to have their ID validated on their first trip. 1.Verification of Aadhar cards will be done online. 2. CISF will manually verify any other identification.
- The passenger's photo will be added to the Digi Yatra profile in the central system after successful verification.
How to register via mobile banking?
- To use the service, passengers must first register their information on the DigiYatra app using Aadhaar-based validation and a self-image capture. After enrolling in the service, a DigiYatra ID will be generated. Here's how to sign up for the DigiYatra service using its mobile app:
- Install the DigiYatra app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store on your Android or iOS smartphone.
- Select the "Get Started" option.
- Enter your cell phone number here.
- Select the Register option.
- Then, enter the OTP you received to validate your phone number.
- Then, at the bottom of your screen, tap on the "Wallet" option.
- Select Identity credential from the menu.
- Accept the terms and conditions by clicking the OK button. You can also upload your identity documents using your DigiLocker account.
- Your DigiYatra ID will be generated after you upload.
PROCESSES AT AIRPORT
- The passenger will scan his boarding pass or e-ticket at the entry point E-Gate (Print or a soft copy in mobile).
- The system will validate the passenger and flight details after scanning the bar code/ QR code.
- Digi Yatra ID users' identities will be verified using face recognition.
- The e-Gate will open once the Ticket and Digi Yatra ID have been successfully verified. Furthermore, Face with ticket PNR is converted into a single token for the remainder of the airport journey.
- Passengers will be granted access to the security area and the aircraft. Boarding via e-Gate using a Facial Recognition System
Is it safe to use DigiYatra, and do all passengers have to use it?
The DigiYatra Mobile App is secure because the passenger's biometric information is stored on the passenger's mobile device and is not shared with anyone. The use of DigiYatra is entirely voluntary, and the standard non-biometric process will continue to operate.
