What is OCI Card?

What Are The Documents Required For E-OCI Card?

Applicants are required to present a valid passport based on their current citizenship status. The passport should have active validity at the time of applications. Applicants applying from India may also need a valid visa or residential permit, depending on their status and the applicable rules.

Proof of Indian origin is central to most OCI applications. This may include an earlier Indian passport, domicile certificate, nativity certificate, OCI or PIO card of a parent or spouse, or another acceptable document proving Indian origin. In some cases, documents issued by competent authorities such as a magistrate may be considered.

Applicants claiming eligibility through parents, grandparents or great-grandparents must usually provide relationship proof. A birth certificate showing the names of both parents is commonly required. -Errors in names, dates, passport numbers or parental details can delay verification.

-Upload your latest passport copy and supporting documents.

-Applicants must also upload a biometric photograph that meets portal specifications.

-The photograph should generally have a neutral facial expression and a light background. Poor-quality images or mismatched documents may lead to queries or rejection.

-Complete the e-signature after uploading the documents. Make the payment.

-Once submitted, the system provides an acknowledgement number. This number is important because it allows the applicant to track progress and respond if additional verification is requested.

-The approved e-OCI document can be downloaded digitally. This is the most important practical change for applicants, as it reduces dependence on physical paperwork after approval. Still, applicants should preserve all original documents used during the process, as authorities may ask for verification at any stage.
