Gold rates in India continued to fall for second day straight on May 27, 2026. However, in some cities gold prices decline was even sharper. Overall, 24 carat gold prices plunged by nearly Rs 14,500 in two consecutive days, despite cautiously optimistic sentiment in MCX metals and the international market on Wednesday. A mix of geopolitical risks and hawkish macro scenarios is playing a key role in driving sentiments in physical gold rates.

Gold Rates Today

24 carat gold dropped by Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,82,900 per 100 grams, while 10 grams gold plunged by Rs 600 to Rs 1,58,290 on Wednesday. This is the price level in cities like Kerala, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.

But in cities like Chennai, gold rates fall even deeper. On May 27th alone, 24 carat gold price plunged by Rs 8,700 in 100 grams to Rs 15,98,200 and declined by Rs 870 in 10 grams to Rs 1,59,820.

Yesterday, gold was down by Rs 5,500 in Chennai in 100 grams. In other cities, the decline was about Rs 4,900.

Hence, 24 carat gold slipped by Rs 14,200 in Chennai alone, in the other mentioned cities, the same gold dropped by Rs 10,900 in two consecutive days.

Physical gold rates are down as MCX gold trades cautiously. After opening with mild gains, MCX gold retreated to trade in deep red.

At the time of writing, MCX gold price traded at Rs 1,56,950 per 10 grams, down by Rs 666 or 0.42%. This is near its intraday low of Rs 1,56,808 per 10 grams. Gold erased its early upside of an intraday high of Rs 1,57,898 per 10 grams.

Spot Gold Price

The sentiments in Indian gold rates soured as international gold prices extended their fall. Spot gold is down by 0.5% and is struggling below $4,500 per ounce. It has hit the $4,490 mark.

Investors are cautious as they navigate the development of negotiations between US and Iran.

Among the latest developments in the West Asian conflict, President Donald Trump said negotiations to extend a ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that any final agreement may still take several days to complete. At the same time, the US military said it carried out self-defense strikes in southern Iran, while Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed it fired at an F-35 fighter jet and multiple drones after they allegedly entered Iranian airspace, as per Trading Economics.

Talking about the latest performance, Gaurav Garg, research analyst at Lemonn markets desk said that the recent volatility in gold and silver markets can be attributed to a mix of geopolitical risks and technical trading patterns, with investors balancing these factors against expectations of forthcoming economic data.
