Deadly Boiler Blast at Vedanta Power Plant in Chhattisgarh Kills 10, Dozens Injured; PM Announces Compensation

A massive boiler explosion struck the Vedanta power plant in Sakti district of Chhattisgarh on the evening of April 14, 2026, killing 10 workers and leaving more than 23 others seriously injured. Among the injured, at least six are reported to be in critical condition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep grief over the tragic incident. Authorities have ordered a magisterial inquiry to investigate the cause of the accident. The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), with ₹2 lakh for the families of each deceased worker and ₹50,000 for the injured.

According to police officials, the explosion occurred in the afternoon at the Vedanta Limited power plant located in Singhitarai village. Preliminary reports suggest that a fault in the boiler tube led to the blast. The sudden explosion caused extensive damage within the plant premises and triggered panic among workers.

The intensity of the blast was so severe that several workers were caught in its impact, resulting in immediate fatalities at the site. Many others sustained serious injuries in the incident. The injured workers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Those critically injured have been placed under special medical supervision. The administration has assured that all necessary and appropriate medical facilities are being provided to the victims.
