Miuccia Prada: Career Highlights

Miuccia Prada began her career as a mime artist at the Teatro Piccolo, where she performed for five years. She was also a member of the Italian Communist Party and involved in the women's rights movement in Milan during the 1970s. In the mid-1970s, she joined the family business of manufacturing luxury leather bags and initially oversaw the design of accessories.

In 1978, Miuccia met her future husband and business partner, Patrizio Bertelli. Together, they transformed Prada into a global luxury fashion brand. Miuccia designed her first successful handbag line in 1985, featuring black, finely-woven nylon handbags. She then introduced her first women's ready-to-wear collection in 1989 and launched her first menswear line in 1995.

In 1992, Miuccia launched the Miu Miu line as a less expensive womenswear line inspired by her personal wardrobe. She showcased her collections in New York and London Fashion Weeks in 1994 and became the co-CEO of Prada with her husband in 2014. In 2020, Miuccia presented her final collection as the brand's sole creative director and now shares creative responsibility with Raf Simons.
