Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani was born on April 19, 1957, in Aden (present-day Yemen) to a Gujarati Hindu family. He spent his early years in Yemen before moving to India in 1958. His family lived in a modest two-bedroom apartment in Bhuleshwar, Mumbai until the 1970s. Ambani attended Hill Grange High School and St. Xavier's College in Mumbai. He then went on to receive a BE degree in chemical engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology. Ambani enrolled for an MBA at Stanford University but withdrew in 1980 to help his father build Reliance.
