Hari T, Chief People Officer at Mahindra Satyam said background of some 21,000 employees working in India will be completed by September-end. He also said that any employees found to have joined the company by fraudulent means will face cheating case.

So far, fraud incidents have been reported at the company's Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore offices, added Hari. He was astonished that fraudsters even managed to hoodwink the entire verification process in order to join the company.

Hari was quoted by PTI as: "We are now doing multiple checks of the employees whom we suspect. We have instructed our background verification agencies to personally visit the office where the candidate claimed to have worked earlier. Some fraudulent and organised agencies even run call centres, which when called for verification vouch for the candidate."

He further added that the company has filed cases against seven such people and will be pursuing another three dozen. He mentioned that the company was very serious about such practices.

This came to light when the experience certificate of some employees turned out to be fake. This prompted Mahindra Satyam to go for a complete cross-check of all the employees.

"There are other incidents we found where people were lured for money and given fake appointment letters of Mahindra Satyam. When they come here with the appointment letters, we found that they were fake," Hari said, explaining another type of fraud the company is facing.

Hari said, such cases tarnish the industry and makes the partner and client skeptical as they fear for data.

The company has engaged the services of three different agencies for employee background verification.
