Sensex Nifty gains ahead of New Year
The Indian benchmark indices rose on Friday, last working day of the calender year 2011. The Sensex and Nifty opened in green after sliding in previous three sessions.

The upbeat in US housing and employment data released and stability in European market has bought positive cues in domestic market.

At 11.00 am IST the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading at 15634.91 up by 90.80 points or 0.59% and NSE Nifty was trading at 4672.10 up by 25.85points or 0.58%.

In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 34.23 points or 0.41% to 8,433.10 China’s Shanghai Composite was up by 18.71points or 0.81% at 2,191.59. Hang Seng index rose 74.84 points or 0.41% to 18,472.76.

Among Sectoral indices on the BSE, auto, capital goods and consumer durable trading in positive, all gaining by nearly 1% each.

On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the top volume gainers were Sesa Goa, Tata Motors, HDFC, Siemens and ICICI bank posted gains between 1.47%-0.26%

And the top losers in the opening trade were Grasim, BPCL , Bajaj Auto, and Jindal Steel were among top losers.
