Markets in the rhythm of ups and downs
The Indian benchmark indices were trading in the rhythm of ups and downs on the first trading day of the New Year. The investors and traders seem to be indecisive as most of the global markets including Asia remained closed today on account of extended holiday of New Year.

The BSE Sensex gained 52 points in morning session. At 10.50 am IST, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading at 15,449.13 down by 5.79 points or 0.04% and NSE Nifty was trading at 4,623.30 down by 1.00 points or 0.02%

Among Sectoral indices on the BSE, Sectors in negative terrain were FMCG (0.61), Realty (0.62), Power (0.32) Bankex (0.22) and Auto (1.17). Sectors trading in positive terrain were Oil & Gas (0.95), Consumer Durables (0.74), TECk (0.37) and IT (0.28)

On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the top volume gainers were coal India, Tata Motors, Gai,l Maruti and ICICI Bank posted gains between 1.09% - 2.05%.

The major losers on the NSE were Bajaj Auto, DLF, Sesa Goa, Kotak bank and Sun Pharmaceuticals.
