At 3.30 pm IST, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 16,171.04 up by 356.32 points and NSE Nifty closed at 4,849.55 up by 106.75 points.

In Asia, most of the markets ended in positive terrain, the Nikkei 225 was up by 31.91 points and was at 8,422.26. The Hang Seng was up by 138.56 points and was at 19004.28. The Shanghai composite was up by 60.30 points and was at 2,286.19.

Among sectoral indices on BSE, all the sectors were ended in positive terrain Capital Goods, Auto, Realty, Metal and Oil & Gas posted gains between 1.5%-2%.

On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the top volume gainers were Reliance Power, Reliance communication, Reliance Infrastructure and Hindalco posted gains between 4.45%-6.67%

And the only losers in the trade were Ranbaxy (0.83), TCS (0.63) and Gail (0.04).
