The BSE Sensex was trading at 18319.69 points, up 165.7 points at 9.20 am IST. Stocks on the NSE too gained ground with the Nifty at 5573.40, up 51.45 points.
Amongst the gainers were metal stocks like Hindalco and Sterlite, BHEL, Tata Motors and Reliance Communications. There were hardly any losers amongst the blue chips, except BPCL, which was trading marginally lower by 0.43% at Rs 620.15.
Asian markets were also trading firm with the Nikkei, Hang Sang and Strait Times gaining between 1-2%.
Markets are expected to continue showing an upward trend thanks to robust liquidity conditions around the globe. All eyes are now focused on the outcome of the Greece debt crisis and the country's bailout package by the European Union.
