Markets end flat as GDP data disappoints
|
Markets ended the day flat after morning's sharp rally, as poor GDP data led to profit booking. The BSE Sensex closed the day at 17,752 points marginally up by 21 points. The Nifty ended the day at 5385 points, up 9.70 points.
The GDP data that was out today clearly disappointed the markets. The Q3 GDP data came in at 6.1%, as against slightly higher expectations of GDP of around 6.3%.
ONGC rallied sharply today on reports that the company's auction price would be Rs 290 per share.
The shares of BGR Energy spurted 9.40% after reports that the company had secured orders from NTPC propelled the share. Top losers among Nifty Stocks included Larsen and Toubro, Siemens and Jindal Steel.
Shares in Europe remained largely positive on expectations of the European Central Bank infusing fresh liquidity in the European region through cheap loans.
