Markets open firm; Infosys drop on Q4 results

The benchmark indices opened on positive note tracking positive global trend. Speculation on the monetary easing by Fed general boosted the market sentiment globally.

The Sensex was trading at 17354.55 higher by 21.93 points or 0.13% and Nifty was at 5288.90 higher by 12.05 points or 0.23% at 9.40 am IST. Among the stocks that gained today were the Jayaprakash Associates, Reliance communication, Reliance Infrastructure and IDFC.

While on the losing side, the stocks failed to lure investors were Infosys, TCS, Wipro and HCL Tech.

In Asia, markets were trading in green, the Nikkei 225 was up by 1.25% at 9,645. The Hang Seng was down by 1.61% at 20,653. The Shanghai composite was up 018% at 2,355.

Domestically, IT bellwether Infosys which reported the net profit for the fourth quarter at Rs 2316 crores, saw a drop of 2.36% over the previous quarter.
