Markets end higher; HDFC surges
Among the gainers in trade today was HDFC, an index heavyweight which rose 2%, following the successful conversion of warrants. Other shares that gained from the S&P CNX Nifty stocks were Siemens, IDFC and Tata Consultancy Services.
Sesa Goa ended the day with losses of more than 6%, following the Goa government's order of shutdown of all 90 iron ore mines in the state.
Shares of Opto Circuits gained more than 7%, following reports that it has received the nod from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for heart devices.
Banking shares ended the day flat with Axis Bank and State Bank of India having subdued closing. However, shares of ICICI Bank jumped more than 1%.
Stock of Fulford jumped more than 4%, after reports that the company had revised its open offer from Rs 830 to Rs 1000.
Markets are expected to be volatile ahead, tracking global cues, particularly a German Constitutional court ruling slated for Wednesday.
Domestically, key data points to watch would include the IIP data due on Wednesday and inflation data due on Friday.
