Sensex, Nifty close higher as Reliance surges
The Nifty ended the day higher by 17.90 points, while the Sensex gained 49 points (provisional) in trade today. Among the stocks that led gains apart from Reliance Industries included Bhel, JP Associates, Reliance Infra, Larsen and Cairn India.
Shares of housing finance company, HDFC ended the day flat, despite results being marginally lower than street expectations.
Hindalco Industries also ended the day flat, after reports that the 1.5-million-tonne alumina refinery project of Utkal Alumina International (UAIL), is finally taking off by the end of March or first week of April.
State Bank of India gained marginally after the bank said there would be fresh capital infusion into the bank by the government.
Index stocks that saw selling pressure included DLF, Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, TCS, Cipla and Grasim.
Shares of MindTree hit a 52-week high today, as investors bought into the company, after Q3 numbers reported were robust.
Metal stocks also saw buying interest in trade today with notable gainers including Jindal Steel and Steel Authority.
The BSE Realty index ended the day with marginal losses with Oberoi Realty, Parsvnath and Godrej ending the day with losses.
Meanwhile, markets in Europe were trading higher, while most of Asia ended the day with marginal losses.
