Realty stocks gained in trade today on rising expectations that there would be some benefits for the sector, particularly by way of hike in tax exemptions on home loans.
Shares in India's largest real estate player DLF jumped 1.21 per cent, following a smart jump on Monday. Other realty stocks that gained in trade were Oberoi Realty, Parsvanth, Unitech and DB Realty.
There are hopes that the government would increase the tax limits on housing loans, particularly the principal amount paid which currently attracts a limit of Rs 1 lakh under section 80C.
Presently, interest paid on home loans attracts a limit of Rs 1.5 lakhs, making the total limit on housing loans at Rs 2.5 lakhs per year.
