Union Budget 2013: What it has for women?
This year's budget did not leave a lasting impression on the the common, but, yet it had someting refreshing for women folk. This Union Budget can be called as Women -Centric budget where many measures were taken to ensure safety and growth of Indian women.

Nirbhaya Fund

In the backdrop of incidences of violence against women which challenges liberal and progressive credentials of the country, Finance Minister Chidambaram pledged to do everything possible to empower women and to keep them safe and secure.

A fund called "Nirbhaya Fund" is proposed to be set up with a corpus of Rs 1000 crores. The purpose would be to protect women and empower them.

An Women Bank

Finance Minister, P Chidambaram has proposed a separate all women bank to be served by women employee to other women citizens. Government is to infuse an initial capital of Rs 1000 crore to set up the country's first women bank.

However, questions remain on whether a bank of this nature is needed? While many feel that it was novel idea and welcomed it, other's felt it would serve little purpose. This move will help and courage self help group and women.

Duty free gold doubled

The limit for duty free gold which can be brought from abroad for women is raised to Rs 1 lakh.
