Sensex at 20,000 points; first time in 3 months
The Sensex was trading higher by 33 points, while the Nifty gained 8 points in early trade. Among the top gainers in trade were HDFC, which rallied 1 per cent, while TCS gained 1.47 per cent. Other notable gainers were Wipro, NTPC and Gail.
Among the losers from the Nifty stocks were Bhel, Cipla, Reliance Industries, Larsen and Sterlite Industries.
The PSU banking index was trading marginally higher with notable gainers from the space including Bank of India, Union Bank of India and IDBI Bank. Punjab National Bank was trading marginally higher ahead of its results to be declared later today.
Realty stocks were trading flat with notable losers being HDIL, Indiabulls and Sobha Developers. Among non index stocks S Kumars was down 2 per cent after reports that lenders were planning legal action against the company.
Aptech shares surged by more then 8 per cent, after reports that the company was planning a buyback of shares.
Magma Fincorp's jumped 4 per cent after the company reported better then expected financial performance.
Viceroy Hotels also gained after the company said it will sell its Chennai project division for Rs 480 crore.
Meanwhile, markets in Asia were trading mixed with the Hong Kong's Hang Sang and the Shanghai Composite dropping in trade, while the Nikkei was trading higher.
