Markets end flat ahead of Infosys results
Markets ended the day flat ahead of results season, which kicks-off with the quarterly results of IT Major Infosys.

The Sensex ended the day higher by 54 points (provisional), while the Nifty gained 13 points in trade. Among the top gainers in trade today were once again the pharma stocks with notable gainers from the space being Ranbaxy labs, which jumped almost 4 per cent, while other gainers included Lupin and Cadilla Health.

Nifty losers were mostly from the banking sector with HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra dropping in trade.

Other Nifty losers were Tata power and ITC.

PSU banking stocks had a good day in trade today with buying support emerging at lower levels. Among the top gainers from the space were Bank of Baroda, Andhra Bank and State Bank of India.

IT major Infosys which is set to declare its results later on Friday ended the day flat. A lot of activity was witnessed in the stock in the options and futures segment.

Tata Steel was up 1.8 per cent on reports that the company would sell assets aggregating $1.2 billion. Another group company Tata Motors was also up on hopes of improving prospects for the company's Jaguar-Land Rover division.

Most of the mid cap stocks in line with the broad markets ended the day lower. Winners from trade included Havells India, Ashok Leyland and Siemens.

Among Realty stocks DLF rallied for the second day in a row on reports of the company's asset sales programme.

Meanwhile, markets in Asia ended the day mixed with the Shanghai Composite and the Hong Kong's Hang Sang declining, while the Japanese Nikkei and the Jakarta Composite gained ground.
