Among the top gainers today from the Nifty stocks was Larsen and Toubro, which rallied following a series of upgrades by brokerage houses. The stock ended the day higher by almost 6%.

Zee Entertainment also rallied after the company reported better then expected Q2 numbers. Among the top gainers in trade from the Nifty pack were Tata Steel, Hindalco and Maruti Suzuki.

Stocks that added pressure on the Nifty today were technology stocks including Infosys, TCS and HCL Tech.

HDFC, which reported a good set of numbers ended the day flat in trade. Banking stocks were once again in demand today with Yes Bank rallying 4%, while other notable gainers were IndusInd Bank, Kotak Bank, Bank of India and Bank of Baroda.

DLF was also one of the top gainers from the Nifty today with the stock jumping more then 5%. Mid Cap stocks ended the day higher despite a drop in the benckmark indices. Shares that rallied from the space were HDIL, Crompton Greaves, IDBI Bank, Steel Authority and Siemens India.

FMCG stocks were badly hit in trade today with ITC dropping almost 3% in trade, while other notable losers were Colgate, Jubilant Food and Emami.

Meanwhile, markets in Asia ended the day marginally higher with the Japanese Nikkei rallying 1%, while the Shanghai Composite jumped almost 2%.
