The Sensex ended the day higher by 49 points, while the Nifty gained 4 points in trade. Top Nifty gainers in trade today were the IT pack with Wipro, Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services among the gainers.Metal stocks, however, lost ground today with notable losers from the space being Tata Steel, Jindal Steel and Hindalco.

ICICI Bank which reported results today ended the day with gains of 0.62%. Among non index stocks, Shopper's Stop also gained following better then expected results.

Other banking stocks had a mixed day with PSU Banking stocks in particular seeing some selling pressure. Among the notable losers were Syndicate Bank, Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank.

Wockhardt ended the day marginally higher despite a drop in profits, following export curbs.

Real estate stocks came in for selling pressure with DLF Dropping almost 4% and DB Realty falling 3.22%.

Mid cap stocks also witnessed a subdued day of trading. The Adani Group stocks saw some selling pressure from the mid cap space with Adani Enterprises and Adani Power losing heavy ground.

Pharma stocks ended the day with losses with stocks like Sun, Divis and Cipla losing ground.

Meanwhile, Asian markets ended the day marginally lower, while most of Europe was trading with losses.
