
The Sensex ended the day lower by 223 points (provisional), while the Nifty ended the day lower by 61 points. Among the top losers from the Nifty were Jaiprakash Associates, Sesa Sterlite, Tata Power and Tata Steel. ACC also had a bad day in trade with the stock dropping almost 3 per cent.
Canara Bank which reported numbers today ended the day sharply higher after the company's non performing assets fell. The stock was up almost 3 per cent in trade.
Other banking stocks that had a good day of trade included Yes Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and IndusInd Bank.
Hindalco ended the day flat after its results matched expectations. Hindustan Petroleum which reported better then expected results ended the day higher.
Realty stocks ended the day mixed with IndiaBulls spiking almost 6 per cent, while DLF and Unitech dropped in trade.
Kajaria Ceramics rose sharply after the company said it will issue 20 lakh preferential shares to Westbridge at Rs 250 apiece.
Britannia Industries gained ground after the company's results beat expectations.
Meanwhile, markets in Asia ended the day mixed with the Japanese market rallying 2.23 per cent in trade. Europe was trading with marginal losses.
