Rupee gains 23 paise on strong global cues

The rupee opened the week on a strong note on firm global cues. The Indian rupee breached the 63 levels and was last trading at 62.88, a gain of 23 paise over Friday's close.

The currency rallied in line with global equity markets after hopes that the Federal Reserve would push its QE3 tapering into the next year, following optimistic comments from Janet Yellen, who has been nominated as the Fed Chairman.

Most emerging market currencies were trading strong.
