
The Sensex ended the day with gains of 45 points (provisional) at 21,383 points, another record closing, while the Nifty closed 7 points higher. Among the top gainers in the Sensex apart from L&T were Gas Authority of India, HDFC, Sun Pharma and Bharti Airtel.
Stocks that lost ground in trade were Mahindra and Mahindra, ONGC, NTPC and Tata Consultancy Services. NTPC was the top traded stock in terms of volumes.
Mid cap stocks did not have a particularly good day in trade with the Mid Cap Index ending the day lower.
Biocon was the top losers from the mid cap space after its results disappointed the markets. The stock ended the day almost 5 per cent lower.
Indian Bank on the other hand rallied in trade after the bank's results revealed that non performing assets had dropped.
Private sector bank, Yes Bank lost ground in trade today and the stock ended the day more than 1 per cent lower. Other banking sector losers were Bank of India and ICICI Bank.
Pharma stocks which had rallied substantially in trade on Wednesday ended the day with modest gains. Meanwhile, markets in Asia ended the day with losses after data from China disappointed. Among the losers in trade were the Seoul Composite and the Hong Kong's Hang Sang.
