Markets end flat; DLF rises on Aman deal

Markets ended flat in a day of listless trading, after moving in a narrow range for most of the day. The Sensex ended the day lower by 56 points (provisional), while the Nifty lost 10 points in trade.

Among the top gainers from the Nifty in trade today was DLF, which rallied after the company managed to seal a deal for its Aman Property. The stock closed the day higher by more than 2 per cent.

Other gainers in trade were HCL Tech, ONGC and Sun Pharma.

Tata Motors ended the day higher ahead of its results to be declared later today. Heavyweight, TCS added pressure on the Nifty as the stock dropped more than 2 per cent. FMCG major, HUL also saw selling pressure and some unwinding by institutions.

Jaiprakash Associates and Bharti Airtel were the other Nifty losers in trade. Mid cap stocks came in for some selling pressure with Godrej Industries, Oriental Bank and India Cements among the top losers. Aurobindo Pharma which rallied sharply a day after its results gave up gains and ended the day lower by more than 4 per cent.

Banking stocks also had a subdued day in trade with Kotak Mahindra and HDFC Bank among the losers. However, Bank of Baroda ended the day higher.

Meanwhile, Asian markets saw a smart rally led by a 2 per cent gain in the Shanghai Composite and 1.77 per cent gain in the Japanese Nikkei.
