Few things that may get cheaper after the Interim Budget
SUVs
The excise duty on Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) has been cut to 30 per cent from 24 per cent. This means that if companies like Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors, Maruti and others pass on the benefits to consumers, SUVs are likely to get cheaper.
Large and mid segment cars
The excise duty on Large and Mid segment cars has been cut to 20 per cent, making larger cars a little cheaper. Cut in excise duty has been a long standing demand of the sector, thanks to waning demand.
Consumer durables
Excise duty has been cut by 2% on consumer durables, which will make refrigerators, and washing machines cheaper.
Mobile handsets
Excise duty on mobile handset to be 6 per cent on CENVAT credit to encourage domestic production. This may make mobile handsets cheaper, thought not necessarily.
Motorcycles
Excise duties on bikes/2 wheelers has been reduced to 8 per cent, which is likely to make products from this segment cheaper.
